Velma L. (Kart) Sargeant, age 91, of Alvin Texas, formerly of the Lake Odessa area, passed away on June 4, 2010. Velma was born in Lake Odessa on September 13, 1918 to Cloid and Esther Kart. She attended Lake Odessa Public Schools and graduated in 1937. On November 26, 1938, Velma and Paul Richard "Dick" Sargeant were married in Indiana and resided in Lake Odessa and Arizona until moving to Belding, MI, where they were both employed at Gibson's until their retirement. They spent the winters in Texas. Velma is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Ernest) Augst of Decatur, MI, Carol Sargeant, with whom Velma resided in Alvin, TX, and Pamela (Alan) Sargeant-Laurence of Austin, TX. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren. Preceding Velma in death were her husband, Dick; her parents; and two brothers, Leo Kart, and Arthur Kart. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, June 11 at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. Burial will follow in Clear Lake Cemetery near Fenwick, MI.
