Donna Jean (Roush) Ferrill, of Lake Odessa, born May 31, 1947, went into the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 5, 2010 following a snowmobile accident. Born and raised in Lake Odessa, Donna graduated from Lakewood High School in 1965. Following her passion for nursing, she attended Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek and began her nursing career as an LPN at Leila Hospital in Battle Creek. Donna married Rex, her wonderful husband of 38 years in 1969. They built a home in Lake Odessa, and together they raised four adventurous boys; poor Mom was always outnumbered. From 1980 until the time of her death, Donna had worked as a nurse for Dr. Lee Stuart in Lake Odessa. She had also worked part-time for Dr. De Witt in Hastings for the past fourteen years. Donna was blessed with six wonderful grandchildren; of course, five boys and one girl. She absolutely loved being a Grandma. When she wasn't working, she was either spoiling one of the grandkids with ice cream before and after dinner, or she was involved with her new passion, landscaping. To protect her beautiful landscaping, she became an avid woodchuck and mole hunter. Tyler, her oldest grandson, even encouraged her to take a shot from the back porch, and she was proud that she got that woodchuck right square in the heart. During the summer, she spent weekends at the lake relaxing on the beach and playing in the water with the grandkids. The boys and Sissy always chose Grandma, the best turtle hunter over their Daddies. Donna loved taking them on the paddleboat and bringing back a bucket full of turtles, one for each grandkid. Donna faithfully attended Clarksville Bible Church for many years. She never went off-duty from nursing, taking many after-hour calls from her friends and family. She was known for her caring and gentle ways; always giving of herself. She had a heart of gold and was always ready to help a friend in need, babysit her grandkids, or listen when someone needed a friend to talk with. Preceding her in death were her father, Walter Roush; parents-in-law, Aron and Bessie (Carr) Ferrill; husband, Everett Rex Ferrill in 2007; son, Chad Everett in 1988; baby Thomas in 1979; and grandchildren, babies Aron James and Rexell Everitt in 2009. Donna is survived by her mother, Mary (Seese) Roush; sons, Andy and Denise Ferrill, John Ferrill, and Corey and Stephanie Ferrill; grandchildren, Tyler, Drew, Sawyer, Anika, Colton, and Wyatt; sisters, Elaine (Rod) Evans, Bonnie (Gary) Winslow, Connie Ddyer, and Janet Roush; brothers, Paul (Deb) Roush and David (Nancy) Roush; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa on Wednesday, February 10 from 6-8 PM, and again on Thursday, February 11 from 2-4 PP and 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 12 at the Clarksville Bible Church. Private burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons, Clarksville Bible Church Camp Fund, Lake Odessa VFW Scholarship Fund, or MADD.
