Beverly A. Daniels, aged 79, of Woodland, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Pennock Hospital in Hastings. Beverly was born in Nashville, MI on April 28, 1930, the daughter of Forest and Leona (Francisco) Stair. She was raised in the Lake Odessa area, and graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to Arnold M. Daniels on December 23, 1950. Beverly is survived by Arnold, her husband of 59 years; daughter, Penny and Ken Hummel; grandchildren, Heather (Eric) VanValkenburg, Anna (Larry) Johnson, and Royce (Sunrae) Hummel; seven great grandchildren, Brooke, Haley, and Taylor VanValkenburg, Dustin Johnson, Alexis Johnson, Jazlyn Jenson-Cook, and Kiana Hummel; and several nieces and nephews that were very special to her. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Elmer Collins, who married her mother following the death of her father; brothers, Forest "Bud" Stair and Jack Stair; sisters, Betty (Stair) Shepard and Shirley (Collins) Herbstreith; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edna and Lewis Daniels; brothers-in-law, Perry Shepard, Galen Daniels, Bill Dipp, and Bud Waters; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Stair, Wilma Daniels, Kathleen Waters, Maxine Dipp, and Shirley Waters; and nephew, Duane Daniels.
In 1950, while working at Keeler Brass in Lake Odessa, Beverly met and married the love of her life, Arnold, when they eloped to Angola, Indiana. She later worked for several years at the Provincial House in Hastings, first as a nurse's aide, and then as a ward clerk. Several of her co-workers at Provincial House were among the wonderful nurses that cared for her in the ICU at Pennock Hospital over the past year and a half during her valiant struggle with lung disease. She and her husband also owned an ice cream store in Vermontville for three years, and later she co-owned, with her daughter, Penny, a clothing store in Lake Odessa. Beverly enjoyed being with, and cooking for her family. She was so proud of her grandchildren, and to her, their spouses were her very own grandchildren as well. She adored her great-grandchildren. Beverly enjoyed going through recipes and watching cooking shows. She enjoyed going to the casino with her husband and had a reputation for being lucky. Beverly loved the West, particularly the two years she and her family lived in New Mexico.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. In keeping with her wishes, there will be a short service immediately following the visitation at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Calvon Kidder officiating. Private interment will be in Fuller Cemetery in Carlton Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Pennock Hospital.
