Durward I. Harwood, aged 72, of Lake Odessa, went to Home to be with his Lord suddenly and peacefully at his home on Friday morning, October 2, 2009. Derby was born in Clarksville, MI on October 25, 1936 to Irwin and Agnes (Roth) Harwood. He graduated from Saranac High School in 1954, and was married to his high school sweetheart, Ruby Boger, on October 28, 1955. Following his graduation from high school, Derby began his employment with General Motors, and worked there for nearly 40 years. He had also been a member of the National Guard Band for 6 years. Derby loved spending time and relaxing with his family and friends. He will be remembered by many for his gentle and friendly ways. Derby also enjoyed music, and was actively involved in his church choir at the Sebewa Baptist Church. He genuinely enjoyed the beauty of God's creation. He will be greatly missed. Derby is survived by his loving wife, Ruby; his mother, Agnes Harwood; children, Deb Underwood and husband, Daryl, Mark Harwood, Jeff Harwood and wife, Andrea; 4 grandchildren and their spouses; 3 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ed ( Angie) Harwood, Sue (John) Eldridge, Dave (Gina) Harwood, and Annette (Greg) Raffler; the extended Boger family; and many more loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Irwin Harwood. Visitation will be held at the Koops Funeral Chapel on Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. The funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 5 at the First Baptist Church of Sebewa (13010 Goddard Road, Lake Odessa). Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
