Ivan Aalderink, aged 88, of Lake Odessa passed away Wednesday morning, August 19, 2009 at Thornapple Manor in Hastings where he had resided for the past four years. Ivan was born in Odessa Township on November 2, 1920 to Herman and Ethel (Goyings) Aalderink. He was a graduate of Lake Odessa High School and had farmed near Lake Odessa his entire life. Ivan loved gardening, and spent many enjoyable hours tending his flowers and vegetables. He is survived by his sister, Gladys Dailey of Lake Odessa; nieces and nephews, Marlene (Merle) Martin, Rosaline (Richard) Meyer, Lee (Lu) Aalderink, and Phyllis Lammers; and many great nieces and nephews. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Forrest Aalderink; sister-in-law, Ione Aalderink; and brother-in-law, Bernard Dailey. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday August 22, 2009 at the Koops Funeral Chapel. There will be a time of visitation for one hour prior to services on Saturday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Gifts Program at Thornapple Manor, or to Barry Community Hospice.
